Belarus and Japan have expanded their joint programme – Grass Roots – aimed at improving the living standards. As part of the project, Japan has allocated a grant for the purchase of equipment for three hospitals in Gomel and Brest regions amounting to over 200,000 dollars. These steps are aimed at helping victims of radiation.

Hiroki Tokunaga, the Ambassador of Japan to Belarus:

"We are very pleased to implement such projects in Belarus. We are always ready to accept applications for projects from different organizations."

Valery Skakun, the Director of the Department for Humanitarian Affairs of the President’s Administration:

"Within the framework of this programme, the Embassy of Japan allocates funds to the most important projects for our citizens and our institutions."

The two countries launched the joint programme back in 2004. During this time, Minsk and Tokyo launched 41 projects for almost 3.5 million dollars. This is not only medical equipment, but also programmes for the development of human life. In the near future, they will continue their fruitful work. Projects in culture and sports are next in line.
