The heated conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan is turning into a political plane. The European protests have not gone anywhere. And the elections in the USA leave a question of the future policy of Washington.
There are more than 80 long-term conflicts in the world. Syria has been at war for several years. The conflict between Israel and Palestine has escalated this year. They say "no" to isolation, the prohibition of abortion, and the "yellow vests" want to be heard. Nagorno-Karabakh reminded of itself again. The six-week war between Armenia and Azerbaijan claimed the lives of several thousand soldiers from both sides, hundreds of civilians died.
President on international situation and foreign policy goals of Belarus
The head of state noted that the wars in the Middle East and North Africa, where Belarus also has economic interests, have not yet stopped. The protest moods in our European home are intensifying amid restrictive measures in the fight against coronavirus and terrorist attacks of Islamists. "Although you know that France, Germany, other countries invited these Islamists to their place. They opened the borders and called them: "Come!" It is clear that there was not enough labor. And why are you screaming now? You called them, you knew their culture, unity, faith. Therefore, the matter is not in the Islamists, but in those leaders who today rule these civilized states in Europe,” the President said. The presidential elections in the United States, which have not yet clarified the future policy of Washington, add uncertainty to the international situation, Alexander Lukashenko added.
The most important thing for us now is the situation around Belarus. It's time for the West to deal with the problems in their countries. Yesterday, official Warsaw vehemently declared the need for broad support for “peaceful protests” in Belarus. And where is the support from the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Polish women, who until recently admired the “incredible courage of Belarusian beauties with flowers” ?! And why is German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who several times insistently requested a telephone conversation from the Belarusian president and proposed a plan “to save Belarus”, is so cautious in assessing the events in Warsaw?
The "scriptwriters" of this dramatic performance on the streets of Minsk do not hide their names
But, even in such difficult conditions, we, as before, are aimed at strengthening mutually beneficial ties with foreign countries in the hope that the Western partners will hear him.
Belarus is always ready to cooperate with those who observe the principles of mutual respect, sincerity and decency. The President explained that we are talking about some Western states with which Belarus has been progressively and persistently building mutually beneficial contacts in recent years, and especially about the closest neighbors - Poland and Lithuania. “Unfortunately, the position they have taken towards Belarus can destroy much of what has been achieved.
Help from Russia and China in difficult time for Belarus
Official Moscow and Beijing in this difficult situation have shown in practice that our friendship is something more than protocol handshakes. Are the EU and the US ready to help the Baltics? But this is still a big question. The interests of world players have converged around our country, and an open geopolitical struggle is taking place. The position of Belarus is transparent and simple: we will not allow manipulating the country - we will answer with the same force.
Belarus' response steps to the EU actions
Among the response measures, Vladimir Makei also named a decrease in the level of Belarus' representation in the Eastern Partnership.
“The meeting proposed and supported by the meeting participants the idea of lowering the level of our representation in the Eastern Partnership. We see that there are attempts to politicize a number of infrastructure, interregional projects within the framework of this initiative. Therefore, it was decided to lower the level of Belarus’s participation in this initiative," the minister said.
While introducing new sanctions, Europe still has to think about who will be worse in the end? The reaction of Belarus, the Foreign Ministry says, will be adequate and very sensitive for our European partners.
V. Makei: We adequately respond to negative statements and concrete actions of our Western partners
Any crisis ends sooner or later. Whether it's a pandemic, an economic downturn, or a political conflict. The main thing is how we will get out of the crisis. Belarus is a full-fledged state, with its own views and the right to vote. For a quarter of a century, we have gained both political weight and economic potential. We will not deviate from this course, no matter how someone there wants to from the outside.
