Archaeological excavations of Menka ancient settlement let young people touch their historical roots

15 августа 2022
The youth of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union and the representatives of the Council of Young Scientists of the National Academy of Sciences have started excavations at the ancient settlement Menka. This place has been chosen for a reason. The modern Belarusian capital, along with such towns as Polotsk and Turov, stood at the origins of the Belarusian statehood. Before the work began, there was a dialogue and a discussion of the latest discoveries. The personal family mark of Polotsk Prince Izyaslav was found on a fragment of crockery during excavations in Menka. The research experience will allow young people to touch their historical roots. This is especially important in the Year of Historical Memory.

The excavations will continue until September. The BRYU plans to explore the territory of Grodno Region. The events of the Great Patriotic War are also included in the agenda. The Union of Youth plans to involve young people in excavations that are now being carried out in the areas of genocide of the Belarusian people.
