Alexander Lukashenko orders construction of new museum timed to 80th anniversary of Khatyn tragedy

A new museum will open on the 80th anniversary of the Khatyn tragedy. In a year, the Memorial will be supplemented with a unique exposition. Today, the Head of State is working at the site within the framework of the national subbotnik (Saturday clean-up event).

The President was informed about the construction projects. In particular, "The Unbreakable" sculpture will be cleaned, the pedestal, the "Roof of the Barn" monument and the "Crown of Memory" memorial will be repaired, and the granite slabs of the "Last Path" road will be restored. A little later the memorials "Village Cemetery" and "Trees of Life" will be repaired, as well as concrete fences of graves and urns with earth. The works are planned for this year. It is planned to send the money earned at the subbotnik for these purposes. 

As for the new museum, according to the concept it will be a one-storey building with the total area of 1 thousand square meters with a circular arrangement of six exhibition halls. The President ordered to open the site next year.

It is planned that the museum expositions will introduce visitors to the history of major military conflicts and the tragedies of civilians in them. It will cover the period of military campaigns and wars that took place on the Belarusian land from the 10th to the 20th centuries. Naturally, the main accent will be made on the events of the WWII and the Great Patriotic War, the period of occupation and the tragedy of the burnt villages.

The head of the state also laid flowers at the monument "The Unconquered Man". And as part of the event,  he started planting  fruit trees and bushes near the memorial. 

Today, they are planting trees in the park of historical memory with a total of 149 saplings according to the number of dead residents of the village of Khatyn.
