The active phase of CSTO exercises has started in Kazakhstan. The maneuvers are taking place during a difficult situation in the area of responsibility of the organization's countries, including a certain amount of tension that remains in the Central Asian region. That's why it was decided to conduct joint military exercises in Central Asia.
Six and a half thousand people and about 800 hundred units of equipment will participate in the exercise. The main stages will be deployed at the Matybulak firing range in the mountain-desert terrain. The active phase of the CSTO exercise will last until October 7.
Another important detail of the exercise will be the use of a new unit. It is a joint subdivision of radioactive, chemical, biological protection and medical support. The need for its creation was dictated by the situation against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic and the threat of biotechnology. For the first time the unit will be tested in practice during the exercises.
