Maksim Korotkin: The active phase of "Union Shield" began at the sites of the Leningrad and Pskov regions. The exercise involves more than eight thousand soldiers and about 400 units of military equipment, including tanks and aircraft.

Today the 2nd stage started, during which the troops will establish cooperation in the transition from defense to counterattack.

As conceived by the HQ, the group has been fighting against illegal armed groups. During the first 3 days the division of Belarusian and Russian armed forces held off the attack of an imaginary enemy. After repulsing the attack, the troops carried out a counterattack.

As a result, the conditional enemy was successfully destroyed. However, this doctrine is not complete. In the coming days Russian troops will have to develop the offensive in the local battles at the sites of the Western Military District.
