25 августа 2021

The situation in Afghanistan and its influence on the security of CSTO member states was one of the main topics of discussion at the meeting between Secretary of State of the Security Council Alexander Volfovich and the management of the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies on August 25.

Western coalition troops have withdrawn from Afghanistan, but the traditional problems of this country remain. Unfortunately, there are still threats of terrorism and extremism export, the problems of illegal migration, drug production and distribution in the post-Soviet space.

The situation is not easy, but it is controllable, says Alexander Volfovich. All the necessary resources for the normalization of the situation in the CSTO format are available.

Analytics should become additional impetus for further sustainable development of Belarus

Analytics should become an additional impetus for further sustainable development of Belarus, said the Secretary of State of the Security Council.  In modern conditions of high uncertainty, the intentional distortion of information, and manipulation of consciousness, the effective socio-economic and political development requires more and more profound intellectual support. And this expert support is provided by the national think-tank. Under the conditions of increasing demand for high-quality analysis, the institute was able to form a highly professional pool of new opinion leaders.

And here it is safe to say that the development of think tanks like BISS in Belarus should become a logical continuation of the policy of attraction of experts to identify pain points in the society and to search for the best ways to solve problematic issues.
