Today marks 71st anniversary of lifting of Leningrad siege

27 января 2015

The Siege of Leningrad started in September 1941 and lasted for almost 900 days. During that time, more than 1 million people were killed, which is about one-third of the city population. The only way by which food supplies were delivered to Leningrad was the Road of Life. The events and heroes of the blockade are being remembered today not only in Russia, but also in Belarus. Commemorative events and meetings with those who survived the siege will be held in Minsk and Vitebsk.
