International Holocaust Remembrance Day observed on January 27

About six million Jews were murdered during the World War II, including 800,000 in Belarus. Today is the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. 77 years ago, in 1945, Soviet troops under Marshal Konev liberated the first and largest Nazi concentration camp - Auschwitz-Birkenau. During World War II, several million people were exterminated near Krakow. Over a million of them were Jews.  About 200 ghettos were created in Belarus during the occupation. The largest of them is Minsk ghetto. The International Holocaust Remembrance Day was established in 2005 by a resolution of the UN General Assembly.
