By Nadezhda Serbinenko: The birthplace of the Roquefort cheese is France, but today, however, it is produced in many countries. The only blue cheese factory in Belarus is located in the Myadel district at the Naroch River. Two years ago, only 5 percent of the cheese products were exported. This year the figure has increased up to 60 percent.

A plant in Vileika specializes in the production of technical casein. Made from skimmed milk, it has excellent adhesive quality. Belarusian casein, cheese and butter are in high demand abroad, not only in Russia, but also in Germany, Poland and the USA.

The dairy plants are efficient not only due to the sales income, but also as a result of energy savings. The biogas complexes installed at the enterprises have solved the two major problems - an environmentally friendly disposal of whey and generation of cheap heat and electric power.
