15th international congress of Slavic studies to be held in Minsk for the first time

Larissa Guliakevich: All linguists of the world will gather in Minsk in a week. 800 scholars from 35 countries will take part in the International Congress of Slavic Studies, which has been held since 1929.

Alexander Lukashenets, the chair of the international and Belarusian Slavic Committees, the corresponding member of the National Academy of Science: The Belarusian language is entering new spheres today, for example Internet communication.

Today Slavic studies encompass researches of language, material and spiritual culture, the origin (genesis), folklore and literature of ancient and modern Slavs. This congress will enhance Belarus reputation in the international community.
