By Natalia Bordilovskaya: Today, the People's Artist of Belarus Victor Gromyko celebrates his 95th anniversary. A man of bright original talent and amazing resilience, a front-line soldier and an ordnance bearer, he became a patriarch of national painting and entered the textbooks on national fine arts.

Victor Gromyko became a front-line soldier when he was 18. He received multiple medals and orders, and then at the age of 25 went to Minsk Art College to study art and painting. He was awarded a position in the National Academy of Sciences. He is a laureate of the Special Prize of the President of the Republic of Belarus, awarded with the International Prize of Mikhail Sholokhov in literature and art.

A staunch supporter of harsh realism, he taught at the Art Academy for decades. Today, his students and colleagues came to the National War and Labour Veterans Nursing Home to congratulate the People's Artist of Belarus.

A man of war and a living classic of national art, Victor Gromyko is working on memoirs today. One book has already been published, and two more books have been submitted to the publishing house.
