12 февраля 2017

The 24th Minsk International Book Fair has finished today. It took place at the BelExpo exhibition complex with an area of 3,000 square metres and featured hundreds of exhibitors from over 30 countries, this year’s guest of honour being the United Kingdom. The country not only presented its literature, but also got actively involved in the process of uniting the cultures of Belarus and England, the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book printing being the foundation for cooperation. The UK is home to the largest collection of Belarusian literary artifacts in Western Europe, and the Francysk Skaryna Library and Museum, which is the centre of the Belarusian expat community in London.

The experts of both countries started negotiating on the possibility of exhibiting the Belarusian literary artifacts at home. A digital copy of Skaryna’s works, the originals of which are kept in the UK’s museum collections, has been retuned to Belarus and included in a facsimile edition of Skaryna’s literary heritage. The modern digital version has received the Grand Prix of the national contest Book Art.
