An exhibition of works by famous Belarusian artist Matvey Basov opened at the UN headquarters. The exhibition Knock On The Door is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the destruction of the Minsk ghetto. One of the last witnesses of this historical event is Saveliy Kaplinsky.
Within the walls of the United Nations, as a rule, all attention is paid to diplomats. But today the protagonist of the evening is Saveliy Kaplinsky, the last witness of the liquidation of the Minsk ghetto.
Savely Kaplinsky shared his memories with Belarusian artist Matvey Basov. Historical details and personal pain formed the basis of 30 paintings.
The place for exposure is symbolic. The UN is a platform for negotiations around the world. And Belarusians remind the world: this should not happen again.
Saveliy Kaplinsky hardly finds words to describe his last day in the ghetto. While he is alive, he considers it his duty to tell people the truth, educate and keep memory.
