By Olga Medved: The permanent exhibition of Russian art at Belarus’ National Art Museum has been replenished with nine works by worldwide famous marine painter and collector Ivan Aivazovsky.

During his lifetime, Aivazovsky painted over 6,000 paintings. The National Art Museum’s fund includes 15 works - 13 paintings and 2 graphic works. But the permanent collection has been replenished with just 9 pieces. Several paintings are currently being exhibited at traveling exhibitions, and the biggest canvas from the museum’s collection, Storm at Sea, is waiting to be restored.

The paintings added to the Russian art collection represent all periods of the artist’s creative development. The earliest painting of the fund is dated back to 1845, and the latest one was painted several years before the artist's death. All the works have been bought from private collections.
