Vatican Museum hosts grand opening of exhibition of Belarusian icons

President Alexander Lukashenko has congratulated participants and organisers of a unique exhibition of Belarusian icons, which has launched prior to the Belarusian President’s visit to Italy and the Vatican.

The Belarusian exhibition consists of a total of 31 icons and 2 hammered icon covers, the most ancient of which date back to the 17th century. The icons are being exhibited in the Vatican for the first time after a thorough preparation.

The President of Belarus will visit Italy and the Vatican on 20-21 May. Alexander Lukashenko is expected to hold talks with the Italian President. The parties plan to discuss bilateral relations with emphasis on trade, economic and investment cooperation. During his visit to the Vatican, Alexander Lukashenko is scheduled to meet with Pope Francis.
