Final week of National Theatre Award starts in Minsk

By Natalia Bordilovskaya: The most remarkable premieres of the past two years will be presented to the audience and jury during the final week of the 4th National Theatre Award which will open tonight at the Yanka Kupala National Academic Theatre with The Seagull by Chekhov directed by Nikolai Pinigin and premiered in 2015. The final will feature a total of 21 plays to be presented in Minsk, Brest, Grodno, Mogilev and Pinsk.

The Polesski Drama Theatre will present Pinsk Gentry by Dunin-Marcinkiewicz. According to the rules, all plays participating in the contest should have been premiered in the past two years. The number of award categories has been decreased - Best Director and Best Scenic Designer have been merged into the Best Performance category. The Best Debut category has been abolished.

The first stage saw 45 applications submitted by various theaters from across the country. Only half of those have reached the final.

The National Theatre Award winners will be announced on 27 November at the Yanka Kupala National Academic Theatre. In addition to the 19 approved categories, the Theatre Patron and For Contribution to Performing Arts will be introduced.
