Belarusian Foreign Ministry to host International Mother Language Day celebrations today

The Dialogue of Cultures is a creative project organised by the Belarusian Foreign Ministry jointly with the Yanka Kupala State Literary Museum. International Mother Language Day itself is celebrated on 21 February.

According to Dmitry Mironchik, Head of the Information Department, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, the event will feature works by National Poet of Belarus Yanka Kupala and the exhibition of graphic works She and I marking the 100th anniversary of the wedding of the great Belarusian poet and Vladislava Stankevich. The event will be attended by Foreign Ministry officials, heads of a number of diplomatic missions accredited in the Republic of Belarus and creative intelligentsia representatives.

International Mother Language Day was introduced following the 30th session of the UNESCO General Conference in 1999. It is aimed at protecting linguistic and cultural diversity on the planet and preserving the world’s languages.
