One of the nation’s sacred relics — the Turov cross — will be restored, as stated by the Belarusian President during his visit to the Polesie State Radioecological Reserve. A working group comprised of Belarusian Orthodox Church representatives has already been formed to assist in renovating the rarity. The specialists who worked on the reconstruction of the Cross of St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk have also been involved.
Exclusively for Main Air’s film crew, professor Petr Lysenko has demonstrated his version of the reconstructed cross with four lead icons. One of them depicts the Bishop of Turov St. Kirill. The altar cross resembling the famous cross of Euphrosyne of Polotsk was in each of the dioceses, including Turov, in the 12th and 13th centuries. The shrine was kept in the main diocesan church and destroyed in Turov during the earthquake in 1230.
The cross was decorated with five lead icons. So far, four of them have been found. A search is currently underway for the fifth one, which presumably depicts John the Baptist.
