Today, thousands of believers go to churches to honour the memory of the apostles Peter and Paul. This is one of the main holidays for Orthodox Christians. People ask the saints for help in overcoming difficulties and good luck in new endeavours. The day is revered among fishermen, because the apostle Peter is considered their saint patron. Today, in honour of the saints a service and a procession took place at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Gomel.
Our ancestors believed that if the holiday falls on Wednesday, the year will be successful. Also, this day is considered to be the start of autumn, and people begin harvesting crops.
