Today marks Day of Slavic Writing and Culture

24 мая 2017

The Day of Slavic Writing and Culture is observed today in all Slavic countries, celebrating Saints Cyril and Methodius, the Equals-to-the-Apostles. The Greek monks are the forefathers of the Slavic alphabet and inventors of the Glagolitic and Cyrillic alphabets. Besides, they translated the New Testament, the Acts of the Apostles and the Book of Psalms into the Slavic language.

The Day of Slavic Writing and Culture, established in honor of Saints Cyril and Methodius, has been observed since the 19th century.
