Kupala Theatre to stage Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night's Dream

By Inna Pilevich: The Kupala Theatre is staging the famous comedy by William Shakespeare – A Midsummer Night's Dream – using modern gadgets. The Russian director Andrei Prikotenko is working on the play. He staged plays in Moscow, Riga, St. Petersburg, and Orel, and this is his first experience working in Minsk. The Belarusian troupe has been rehearsing together with the director for the past three months.

A Midsummer Night's Dream is played in the twilight. Actors will be separated with transparent walls fr om the audience. This is the modern embodiment of the poetic forest wh ere the Shakespearian heroes wander. The audience will sit close to the set. Thus the main hall of the Kupala Theatre will turn into the Colosseum.

The performance will open the new theatrical season, and the Kupala Theatre will change its tradition to start the year with the oldest production in the repertoire – Pavlinka. The first show of the high-tech version of the Shakespearean comedy is scheduled for 7 September.
