Today, the first Bible printed by Francisk Skorina will be delivered in Minsk. Since the mid-19 century, it has been stored in the Historical Museum in Moscow. The Bible consists of 6 books. In one of them, "The Song of Songs", Skorina used two colors – black and red. All the copies were printed in Prague in 1517 – 1520. Also, this copy of the Bible is unique in that it contains an engraving depicting Francisk Skorina himself. He was the only author who placed his portrait in the Holy Scripture.
Alexandra Alexandrina, a researcher at the Department of Manuscripts and Old Printed Books of the Historical Museum of Moscow: "Francisk Skorina translated the Bible into the Church Slavonic language all by himself, but since he was Belarusian, the book contains lots of Belarusianisms."
Francisk Skorina’s Bible will be delivered to the National Airport of Minsk at 3 pm. To keep the 500-year-old unique edition safe, it will be transported in a special fire-safe suitcase. The Bible will be exhibited at the National History Museum of Belarus until December.
