The 135th anniversary since the birth of the People's Artist of Belarus Valentin Volkov is celebrated today. Being a native of Russian hinterland he has nonetheless become a truly national artist of Belarus. He is known not only for his grand canvas Minsk. July 3, 1944, but also as the creator of one of the state symbols of Belarus – the Coat of Arms.
96 paintings and 100 graphic works by Valentin Volkov are held today in the National Art Museum of Belarus. The artist was awarded the title of People's Artist of Belarus for one of the main paintings of the collection Minsk. 3 July 1944.
