Colourful Nowruz festivities take place in Minsk

22 марта 2018

Minsk has celebrated Nowruz – an ancient holiday symbolizing the end of winter and the beginning of a new day and new life. In 2009, the holiday was inscribed in the UNESCO cultural heritage list. The celebration of Nowruz in Minsk was organized by the embassy of Tajikistan and was held with Belarusian flair. The festive programme opened with the poem "Spring" by Yakub Kolas.

According to Ambassador of Tajikistan to Belarus Mahmadsharif Hakdod, the relations between Minsk and Dushanbe are developing quite fruitfully and are based on political, economic, scientific and technical ties. Belarus imports cotton and fruits from the Central Asian country and exports household and agricultural machinery, as well as various raw materials.

Mahmadsharif Hakdod, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Tajikistan to Belarus: "We are interested in setting up a joint venture for the production of tractors in Tajikistan, as well as a joint venture for the production of milk and meat. We are interested in importing agricultural products from Belarus."

There are also close humanitarian ties between Minsk and Dushanbe, too. In May, the Days of Culture of Belarus will be held in Tajikistan. The number of Tajik students studying in Belarus is also growing steadily.
