A memorable event dedicated to the 215th birth anniversary of the outstanding Belarusian scientist Ignat Domeyko was held today at the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.
An exhibition of photographs, archival documents, as well as printed publications about the life and professional activities of our fellow countryman was opened.
Ignat Domeyko was engaged in mineralogical research, studied the aboriginal peoples of South America, organized a meteorological service in Santiago de Chile. He conducted six expeditions to the Andes and the Cordilleras, where deposits of silver, copper, gold, coal, the world-famous Chilean nitrate were discovered.
