By Elena Bormotova: The Gospel, used by several generations of Belarusians during services, is now in the hands of restorers. The National Art Museum is preparing for presenting the Gospel edited in 1600 and printed in the printing house of the Mamonich brothers, one of the main centers of the printing of our lands. It was there that the Statute of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was printed, too.

In September, the Gospel will move fr om restoration workshops to the Department of the Ancient Belarusian art. This is wh ere the exhibition dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book printing will open, and book monuments of printing houses, located on the territory of Belarus will be presented.

Together with restoring printed rarities, the museum staff is current working on many other items. For example, the clothing of Catholic priests is being restored with the help of new technologies. Every now and again, the Museum’s professionals go on internships to European centers and study the latest techniques that will come in handy in the restoration of the Belarusian national heritage.

Items that are now in the hands of restorers will be presented at the exhibition to the 80th anniversary of the museum in 2019. Many of these valuable objects have never been exhibited.
