By Elena Bormotova: An unknown crypt and two ancient coffins with the remains of three people have been found in the Novogrudok region’s village of Lavrishevo that once was the center of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The remains were sent for an anthropological examination to the Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Scientists have found that the remains are of three males aged 12-14, about 25 and over 60.
The remains of the elderly man have caused the greatest interest among archaeologists, scholars and clergy. Prior to the expertise there has been an opinion that the relics might belong to Elisha - a saint canonised by the Orthodox Church more than 500 years ago.
Despite several examinations carried out, the version of the possible finding of St. Elisha’s relics has to be proved by facts. The remains will be sent for an ion analysis and DNA examination.
