By Alexei Adashkin: An international festival in Alexandria in the Shklov district has opened with a large-scale fair featuring artisans from Belarus, Russia and Ukraine. Its programme is so extensive that it is claimed to be the most ambitious in the history of the festival.

The festival in Alexandria, held for the first time in 2010, is kind of a cultural bridge between the three peoples of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine. The idea of holding such an event has been supported by the President. Alexander Lukashenko has been consistently participating in this festival, which takes place in his small motherland. Alexandria attracts more and more visitors each year. This time, the organisers expect the event to be attended by 100,000 guests.

Alexandria’s Friendship City is hosting a large scale fair featuring over 600 artisans from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine and Lithuania.

The festivities will last for two days. Tonight, the banks of the river Dnieper will host the gala concert Kupalle Tale, featuring Belarusian and foreign music stars. The festival will culminate in colourful firework displays and the traditional lighting of Kupalle fires.
