National Historical Museum of Belarus presents 3D tours of Krevo and Golshany Castles

The two famous castles of Belarus in Krevo and Golshany can now be visited in 3D. The National Historical Museum of Belarus offers its visitors a unique opportunity to go back in time and walk through the castle’s chambers. Augmented reality glasses give the visitors ten different angles and a 360°-view of the castles.

Today, the once magnificent buildings are in ruins, and such a tour is an alternative version of the preservation of the country’s historical and cultural heritage. Krevo Castle is known in history as the place where Grand Duke Keistut was murdered, and where the famous Krevo Union that brought together Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was signed.

Director of the National History Museum of Belarus Oleg Ryzhkov notes that the project is designed to promote Belarusian history and preserve its most important moments.

Here, the past and the present come together. The project has become a platform for discussion and debate of historians. Some experts believe that the architectural attractions of Belarus do not need restoration, and offer to do the so-called preservation of architectural objects.

The interactive project is gaining momentum, and at the moment, a 3D version of Smolianski Castle (Vitebsk Region) is being developed.
