An exhibition by Ivan Misko, the People's Artist of Belarus and the holder of the Francysk Skaryna and Yuri Gagarin Orders, will open tonight to mark World Cosmonautics Day.
Nearly all former Soviet Union cosmonauts became the heroes of Misko’s works. Pyotr Klimuk was the first model in the artist’s workshop located in Minsk center behind the Cathedral of Saint Virgin Mary. Members of international space crews from Cuba, Romania, Mongolia, France, Germany, Syria, the UK and Japan have posed for the sculptor. Ivan Misko is personally familiar with almost all of them.
The current exhibition is dedicated not only to World Cosmonautics Day, but also to the sculptor’s anniversary. Most recently, Ivan Misko has celebrated his 85th birthday.
