By Olga Maslovskaya: The Marc Chagall Museum in Vitebsk is home to a large collection of Chagall’s graphic paintings. Besides, the museum is a scientific centre bringing together researchers studying Chagall’s art and the art avant-garde of the XX century.
Residents of Germany’s Nienburg, Vitebsk’s sister city, have helped to restore the museum’s building and create an exhibition. The Nienburg Mayor even presented a lithograph by Chagall, which has become the first original work in the Vitebsk collection. Today, the exhibition consists of more than 300 graphic works by the artist. The Chagall Museum is also home to one of the richest libraries devoted to the study of his work. Visiting the Marc Chagall Museum is included in all Vitebsk tour programmes.
Next year will see the 130th anniversary of the birth of Mark Chagall.
