On the occasion of International Day of Music, famous French violinist Olivier Charlier was invited to Minsk. It is no coincidence, as is it France that is considered to be the birthplace of the musical festival. This is Olivier Charlier’s fourth visit to Minsk. As a soloist, the violinist has performed with orchestras in Paris, Montreal, Sydney, London.
Olivier Charlier, violinist (France):
"I love to perform with your orchestra, to feel all this momentum, when the musicians vividly convey the musical palette. I am very happy to be here, and, as a musician, I am very inspired with such performances."
Alexander Anisimov, the Chief Conductor of the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus:
"We – our orchestra –celebrate this holiday for the first time since it was established in France about 60 years ago. Now, it is marked by over a hundred countries worldwide. Today, we perform a piece that has never been played in Minsk yet – Lament by Giya Kancheli."
Incidentally, maestro Charlier’s violin is quite unusual. It is more than two centuries old! And worldwide, there are only 50 violins like this.
