12 сентября 2017

Today, a fragment of the original Gutenberg Bible was escorted to the National Library of Belarus, accompanied by an expert and security personnel. In the 1450s Gutenberg created this copy which became the starting point of European book printing. A fragment of the rarest monument is kept in the National Library of Germany in Leipzig. In pre-war times there was a complete edition of the Bible, which was partially lost during the Second World War. The surviving fragment is considered the oldest and most expensive edition in Europe. Its cost is estimated at several tens of millions of dollars.

A fragment of the original monument will be presented to the public on 15 September at the International Exhibition Francysk Skaryna and His Era. The exhibit will be displayed next to the facsimile edition of the complete Gutenberg Bible.
