By Elena Bormotova: The National History Museum’s collection is the largest in the country, the number of exhibits approaching half a million. For several years, the artifacts have been temporarily kept in rented buildings that are not at all adapted for this purpose. The problem can be solved by a single national depositary. Its construction plan has already been brought up for discussion.
The collection is currently being temporarily relocated to another building with a total area of over 2,000 square metres. It comprises of 40 rooms, including premises for the funds, rooms for the researchers and library.
The total weight of the collection will soon increase by another five tons — a large collection of 10,000 porcelain items left after the closure of the Minsk Porcelain Factory is being prepared for relocation. A collection of precious metals and weaponry will stay in the building in Carl Marx street as the premises meet the Interior Ministry’s requirements. Ancient books are kept at the National Library according to international requirements before issues regarding the installation of conditioning and dust removal systems are solved.
