Day of Orthodox book celebrated from 2009

16 марта 2018

The special role of spiritual literature in the life of society and the upbringing of the younger generation was discussed in Minsk during the Day of the Orthodox Book. The holiday is almost ten years old. It is celebrated in every Orthodox diocese of Belarus.

The date for the holiday of the Orthodox book was chosen in honor of the ancestors of the Enlightenment. In mid-March 1564, the world saw the publication Apostle - the first printed volume on the territory of the Eastern Christian lands, the work by Ivan Fedorov and Peter Mstislavets.

This year, dozens of hundreds of Orthodox libraries and Orthodox publishing houses presented comprehensive exhibitions and fairs of spiritual literature, organized meetings with authors, poets, writers, and publicists. Participants of the holiday were offered an excursion to the unique library of the Minsk Theological Academy. The main guests at the events are not only the clergy and teachers, but also the youth and children.

The day of the Orthodox book is celebrated since 2009 and every year it adds its own color to the holiday. The peculiarity of this celebration is a special gift. The National Library of Belarus has transferred the facsimile of the Francis Skaryna Bible to the Minsk Theological Academy. In memory of the event, Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavl Pavel, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, signed the first volume of the publication.
