By Olga Medved: Following today’s solemn opening ceremony, 150 paintings from Alexander Volodchinsky’s private collection delivered to Minsk in special climate-controlled vans will be available for the general public at the National Art Museum tomorrow.
Belarus-born well-known Russian collector Alexander Volodchinsky took up collecting at the age of 18, his preferences changing over time to include works by impressionists, the Jack of Diamonds artist group, the Itinerants and finally Russian genre painters. The Minsk exhibition will feature works by the Makovsky brothers, Chaim Soutine, Vitold Byalynitsky-Birulya, Stanislav Zhukovsky, Vasily Perov, Viktor Vasnetsov, Ivan Aivazovsky, Ilya Repin, Isaak Levitan, Arkhip Kuindzhi and tens of other artists.
