By Nina Mozheiko: The Bolshoi Theater of Belarus is preparing large-scale opera and ballet premieres to take place this season as part of Union State program.
The national opera The Grey Legend to the libretto by Vladimir Korotkevich has become this year’s State Award laureate. This would not have been possible if director Mikhail Pandzhavidze did not decide to move to Belarus several years ago. With less than three weeks before a classic Italian play premiere in Minsk, the theater crew is working in non-stop mode.
Russian-Belarusian theater cooperation is not something uncommon. In fact, the countries share one academic school.
The main part in the ballet to be premiered at the Bolshoi Theater will be performed by Lyudmila Khitrova. The ballerina was born in Karaganda, studied in Nizhny Novgorod and works in Minsk. The ballet’s director is Alexandra Tikhomirova. The holder of the Francysk Skaryna Order was born in Russia’s Saratov.
Belarus offers venues and all necessary conditions for implementing creative projects. Being the CIS leader in terms of art-related universities, Belarus annually receives Russian students who come to the country for study and training.
