By Daria Tarasova: The Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus is celebrating its 85th anniversary these days. President Alexander Lukashenko sent a letter of congratulations on the occasion. The main academic stage of the country, which is the initiator of such major forums as the international vocal competition, the Bolshoi evenings at the Radziwill Castle, the Grand Ball, and the Ballet Summer, did not rest on its laurels today. The stars of the world opera and ballet took part in the festive Gala concert. Among them were Nina Ananiashvili, Ilze Liepa, and Teimuraz Gugushvili.
The Theatre has staged 372 premieres over the course of its time. Most of the performances were awarded state awards. World classics at the Bolshoi is performed in the original language, and international coaches are invited to the Theatre to help performers with their accent. The many historical upheavals did not prevent the Theatre from gaining the status of the country’s main stage and becoming the most visited venue with the capacity of 1,200 people. The Theatre has long become an integral part of the world opera and ballet.
Also, over the years, signed over 30 memorandums of cooperation with the world's largest theatres. A close exchange of soloists takes place with Moscow's Bolshoy, the Mariinsky Theatre and the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. The Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus is famous for its extensive tour activity. The Theatre has already been to the stage of Germany, Austria, France, and Spain. A few months ago, the ballet troupe returned from their triumphant Mexican tour.
