The Belarusian-Polish working group on Augustow Canal development has expressed the idea of expanding the Augustow Canal’s visa-free zone to include railway and air travels from Grodno airport. Such a decision is supported by figures — since visa-free regime introduction in the Augustov Canal and the Grodno region water zone, these territories have been visited by over 26,000 tourists from more than 55 countries.
According to the experts, a bilateral project allowing local residents to provide tourist support on both sides of the Augustow Canal is currently being considered. Another joint initiative is including the Canal in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
