By Larisa Gulyakevich: The St. Andrew Church in the village of Naroch in the Myadel district has hosted a Belarusian-French project dedicated to the birth anniversary of Dmitry Shostakovich.
The composer’s great grandfather Petr Shostakovich was born in the Myadel district’s village of Shemetovo. This information was found in various archives by another native of Belarus, Arcadi Volodos, an opera singer who now lives in France. A year ago, Shemetovo hosted a concert dedicated to Dmitry Shostakovich’s 110th anniversary. This year, the village of Naroch is continuing the new tradition, but there is an idea to organize a festival in the Myadel district, which will feature not only musicians, but also artists.
The concert in the St. Andrew church featured French oboe player Jerome Guichard.
Naroch also hosted a meeting of the project’s musicians and organizers with music school students and graduates.
The tradition of holding concerts dedicated to Dmitry Shostakovich in the Myadel district was established last year at the Mother of God Church.
