Ivan Lutsevich known worldwide as Yanka Kupala was born in the village of Vyazynka on this day 134 years ago.

Flowers were laid today at the monument to the national poet in Minsk, after which Yanka Kupala Literary Museum representatives, Belarusian writers, a Russian delegation and schoolchildren took part in the campaign The Poet’s Passionate Word. Anyone willing was given the opportunity to recite their favourite lines from the poet’s literary heritage. Contemporary authors presented their works dedicated to Kupala.

Celebrations in honour of Belarus’ first national poet will continue in the coming weekend. Vyazynka and Radoshkovichi will host literary and musical evenings, folk craft fairs and festivals of ancient Belarusian culture.
