Today, Belarus marks the 135th birth anniversary of Yanka Kupala, the classic of the national literature.
Yanka Kupala became the first national poet of Belarus. A literary artist, an academician, and a philosopher, Kupala contributed a lot to Belarusian literature reaching the international level. His works have been translated into almost 100 languages of the world.
Today at the monument of Yanka Kupala in Minsk, literary and musical compositions based on the poems of the poet were performed. Hundreds of people came with white roses, which were Kupala's favorite flowers.
A marathon of festive events dedicated to the anniversary will continue tomorrow at the poet's homeland – in the village of Viazynka.
