Straight Talk of Belarusian President with CEI Foreign Ministers

Minsk is increasingly becoming a platform for landmark international events that contribute to the strengthening of stability in the region. This year Belarus is the Chair of the Central European Initiative, which includes 18 countries. The organization was established in 1989 to prevent new dividing lines in Europe. This makes the alliance especially popular nowadays.

The key theme of the Belarusian Chairmanship is the promotion of compatibility and complementarity in Europe. President Alexander Lukashenko spoke frankly and openly with the CEI foreign ministers on fighting terrorism, the situation in the sphere of migration, as well as the conflict in Ukraine.

The summit of the Central European Initiative was held in Minsk. High-ranking diplomats discussed the issues of uniting efforts in the fight against new challenges. During the meeting, proposals were also approved to reform the initiative in the light of changes in the region that have occurred over the past decade. Belarus, as the chair of the CEI will hold more than two dozen international events and forums this year.
