Ashgabat hosts international conference on neutrality policy

By Gleb Lavrov: Addressing the international conference titled The Policy of Neutrality: International Cooperation for Peace, Security and Development, Belarus’ President compared Ashgabat’s neutrality with the multi-vector nature of Minsk. The politician, whose name is linked to the most topical Minsk peace initiatives, recalled the lessons of the horrible war that took place mid-last century. Having lost its every third citizen in that war, Belarus, like no other, cherishes peace that is common to everyone. All these years the country has been making necessary efforts, taking decisive steps and setting an example to others. Belarus laid the foundation of nuclear disarmament in the post-Soviet space, being the first to voluntarily and completely abandon the possibility of possessing the most destructive weapon in the history of mankind. Belarus has initiated a number of key approaches in the fight against global challenges from the UN rostrum. Therefore, it is little wonder that today it has openly and explicitly raised the most complex issues of the world peace agenda, offering its assistance in resolving them.

Not limited to relevant topics alone, the Belarusian leader determined the universal formula of global well-being and, using it, described the conference host, Turkmenistan. The formula is simple, but yet it is difficult to find the strength to consistently and strictly follow it.
