Belarusian President starts monitoring development of Belarusian regions

By Ilona Krasutskaya: This week, the Belarusian President began monitoring the development of the regions of Belarus. The first working trip was made to Brest Region. For the President, it is important not only to discuss the results of work and future prospects, but also to see the real problems.

The key issue is the harvesting campaign. This year, Belarus expects to harvest about 10 million tons of grain. At the moment, agrarians are approaching 5 million tons of grain. The main work in the fields should be completed by 20 August, which is why it is crucial to speed up.

Brest Region is traditionally the leader of the harvesting campaign. Yet, this time, Alexander Lukashenko focused on the state of troubled farms. First, the President visited the agro-enterprise Kvasevichi. During his working visits, Alexander Lukashenko follows the same tactic - he never announces which enterprises or facilities he will visit. This time was no exception, and the President paid a surprise visit to the Kosovo farm, which finds itself in a difficult situation. Back in the 1990s, the district was struggling - the number of cattle was not increasing, profitability was declining, and livestock production was put on intensive basis. About 7 years ago, the President tasked the government with fixing the situation, and about 1,200 farms across the country were built or modernized to become the backbone of the economy. The task was to increase dairy exports.

On the second day of the visit to Brest Region, Alexander Lukashenko visited the regional center. In two years, the city upon the Bug will celebrate its millennium anniversary. Socio-economic development is now its priority. Alexander Lukashenko is interested in the level of wages and employment issues. The average salary in Brest is 820BYN.

A year ago, the President signed an order on a number of improvements in Brest. The document has more than 30 objects, including a new football arena, a bus station, and housing. Some of the objects will be entirely new, some of them will be reconstructed.

Brest will also be the first environmentally friendly city. Green economy is now being promoted here. The first thing to be done is cleaning the water in the city and the surrounding areas.

The most ambitious project is the so-called Western bypass - a 3 km traffic junction that will finally solve the problem of traffic jams on the crossings and will connect two checkpoints - the Warsaw Bridge and Kozlovichi.

It is also planned to reconstruct and expand the Kobrin Bridge, which connects the eastern and central parts of the city.

70 residential buildings will be repaired. Many of them have the status of historical and cultural value, therefore, builders will work together with restorers. The city embankment will be longer. All in all, in less than 10 years, Brest has turned from almost the worst regional center into a city that is convenient for life.

Today, Brest is also proud of its milk production. It is no coincidence that among the facilities visited by the President was Savushkin Product. This large processing enterprise is a perfect example of how the funds invested in the modernization of industry are giving the country solid returns. Once, the company needed state assistance - today, the enterprise is one of the leaders and a visiting card of Belarus. Its dairy products are now bought in many countries of the world - from China and Russia to Israel and the United Arab Emirates.

The President instructed to study the possibility of joining some of the less strong agricultural enterprises in Brest Region to Savushkin Product. This can benefit both business and the state. It will allow more efficient use of raw materials, increase the salaries of local people and add revenue to the budget.

Last year, Belarus earned over $4 billion on food and became the leader in the production of butter, cottage cheese, and skim milk. Such an export dairy line has already brought $2.5 billion. Savushkin Product was among those contributing to the success. Alexander Lukashenko presented the team of the plant with the honorary state flag of the Republic of Belarus for achievements in economic development. This is the recognition of the efforts of the whole team, and it is not only an occasion for pride, but also an incentive to work more actively and efficiently, because the image of both the country and the city depend on the quality of their goods.

Based on the results of the two-day visit to Brest, it became clear that the President intends to continue working in this style analyzing the most urgent problems in regions. To some extent, it can be stressful for local authorities, the government and top managers. But for the President, it is an opportunity to thoroughly study the situation on the ground and to analyze how the adopted decisions are being implemented.
