President meets with Prime Minister of Latvia this week

This week the President met with the Prime Minister of Latvia. Māris Kučinskis has arrived in Belarus with representatives of the government and businessmen.

Alexander Lukashenko is sure that the countries can significantly improve their relations. There are a lot of unused opportunities between the states. According to the President, Belarus and Latvia are able to promote cooperation in all mutually beneficial directions, both in political and economic spheres.

During the meeting in the Belarusian government the parties signed several agreements on cooperation in science and technology, as well as sports and tourism. In addition, the countries are ready to cooperate in creating joint ventures and in the field of high technologies.

Special interest is observed in the transport and logistics sphere, as well as investments. The Head of State thanked the Latvian side for not criticizing Belarus for the construction of its own nuclear power plant. According to the President, the NPP will benefit not only the current, but also future generations.

The Baltic country occupies the 7th place in the list of Belarus’ strategic trade partners in the EU. As a result of last year, total trade between the countries approached half a billion dollars which is 30% growth if compared to the year 2016.

Latvia is not only an important trading partner, but also an investor for Belarus. Businessmen are interested in projects in the Belarusian trade, woodworking, pharmaceuticals, food production.
