Minsk hosted a meeting of the Ukraine-Russia-OSCE Trilateral Contact Group. Prior to the talks, Foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei on behalf of the Belarusian President met with the former Ukraine’s President Leonid Kuchma.

The parties discussed the situation in the conflict zone. According to Vladimir Makei, Belarus is sincerely interested in the restoration of peace and stability in Ukraine. The official Minsk’s proposals on resolving the Donbas crisis were put to all participants in the negotiation process.

As reported today by the OSCE, the Contact Group presented a detailed plan for the implementation of the Minsk protocol and memorandum, which primarily dealt with an immediate ceasefire in Donbas.

Unfortunately, the signing of the document failed and the talks have been suspended. The Contact Group has urged the parties to return to the negotiating table as soon as possible.
