A large-scale meeting dedicated to Belarusian sport problems featured a total of about 200 people, including athletes, coaches, federation heads and sports officials.

It took time for the National Olympic Committee to consider the results of the past Olympic cycle at all levels. A lot has been done - the state support system for sports has been preserved, local successes have been achieved, and Belarus has become one of Eurasia’s sports centers - the country will host the European Games and the Ice Hockey World Championship in two and four years respectively.

President Alexander Lukashenko criticized the performance of the national team at the Rio Olympics and outlined ten key objectives for the athletes and sports officials in order to achieve better results. The priority task is to choose the most promising sports and support their development. Besides, it is necessary to improve the situation in children's, youth and student sport. A well-coordinated system for the continuous training of coaching staff is needed. It is also necessary to optimize the work of national Olympic training centers, with the training process to be supervised by the Ministry of Sport.

The President touched upon sports medicine and science. According to the President, solution to the doping issue lies in preventive measures, competent opposition to groundless pressure and discipline.

Another issue is the role of the regions in training athletes. Each district executive committee should have at least one specialist to be responsible for the development of sports. Sport facilities should be operating at full capacity and sports federations should be more active.
