Belarus will not lay medal hopes on its athletes during the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, as announced by Alexander Lukashenko at a solemn see-off ceremony for a Belarusian delegation leaving for Brazil.

Meeting with the National Olympic Committee, the Belarusian President pointed out that the Rio Olympics would be the main sports exam over the past 4 years. The Olympics have long gone beyond personal achievements.

Alexander Lukashenko expressed hope that the Olympic team would meet in the Palace of Independence upon their return from Brazil to congratulate each other on their good performance.

Following a qualifying campaign, Belarus has won 144 licenses in 25 sports.

Belarus is ready to encourage Olympic champions. The gold winner will receive 150,000 dollars, twice as less for silver and 50,000 dollars for bronze.

Following the solemn ceremony, the delegation laid flowers at the monument in the Victory Square.

The Olympic Games are scheduled to begin on 5 August. The first Belarusian athletes will leave for Brazil on 23 July.
